I Think I Am Done

I think I am done with this blog, and blogging in general. I have a lack-of-interest in blogging right now.
I think it is a combination of my own deepening depression, lack of proper coping skills, and lack of audience.
If anything extremely interesting pops up I might post it, as for now.
So long, lukeofny

Yearly Gains & Loses

I have been commuting by bike for a little over a year now, so I thought I would post a few numbers.
I pointed my internet-browsing-machine towards http://www.bikecommuters.com/gas-saving-calculator/
and entered my information. I am glad somebody else did the work so I don't have to break out my abacus.

My daily gas savings is $0.81 dollars and lbs of CO2 will NOT be added to the atmosphere
My weekly gas savings is $3.25 dollars and 16.50 lbs of CO2 will NOT be added to the atmosphere
My monthly gas savings is $13.00 dollars and 66.00 lbs of CO2 will NOT be added to the atmosphere
My yearly gas savings is $169.00 dollars and 858.00 lbs of CO2 will NOT be added to the atmosphere

That's the facts I guess. The fat I have lost is about 20 pounds or 0.384615385 pounds a week.
This would be a lot more if I controlled my eating habits, but I haven't and I have eaten everything I want.

One Year Anniversary

One year.
Yes, today is my one year bicycle commuting anniversary. Yay for me, I guess, check out my first post here. I think I may have gotten a little more interesting, maybe not.
I really have better things I could be doing with my time, well no not really.

Bikes Made In Taiwan

Warning: this is a no photo post.

I seem to see a lot of craigslists postings about older bikes made in the U.S.A.
bragging about it not being made China or Taiwan.
Wait a minute, I like bikes made in Taiwan in fact all the bikes I own are made in Taiwan.
I gave my Raleigh DL-1 Tourist to my daughter, the others two Free Spirits and a Schwinn.
Ahh, but Schwinn that is a U.S. bike, no mine is not, probably yours isn't either.
I don't understand why having a sticker that says Made In Taiwan makes my bike any less than any other bike. Maybe the Taiwanese don't know how to build bikes, well they did a fine job on mine.
A well-built bike is a well-built bike no matter what the sticker of origin says, and a BSO is a BSO, whether built in China or the USA. I don't associate being of Taiwanese origin with inferior quality.
I have come to the conclusion that we Americans have a superiority complex, and anybody that is not American is inferior.
In short don't judge a bike or a person by the origin, that is the forgotten American way.

Sorry for the rant.

I am proud to own bikes made in Taiwan, lukeofny

A Break From The City

We usually go up to my folks house once a week however my nephew doesn't get outside much.
So we took him up to my parents and let the two of them play.
Here's some pics of the day.

Those are actually chives
A swallowtail

My boy drove most of the time
Nate pretending to drive, about to hit something

The day was beautiful, unlike the weather we have been having. I think we will do it again, Nate needs to experience things like this more. I may be biased but my boy Elijah is smart, he picks up things much quicker than most kids his own age.
Enjoying being a Dad, lukeofny

Commuter Magic, and New Commuter

Warning: no pictures are used in this post, sorry for the inconvenience, you could always check out outdated pics here.

Commuter magic: That intuition that you are going to have a dry ride, when all other indications say no.
Today was a instance of this. Thunderstorms and hail predicted for the ride in, and for the ride home.
I knew better, when I take my dog out in the morning (4:30AM) I usually can tell what the weather is going to be like and prepare.

The  only other thing I have for today is: There is another bike commuter at the Jail (a.k.a. work, no I don't technically work in a jail, although I have less rights there, and I can't see outside ) and I would like to congratulate this person on a solid month of commuting, although I don't know how.
This person is a male and he rides a B.S.O.  and I am broke.
Please post any ideas in the comments section.
Thanks for reading, however I would still write this crap even if you didn't, lukeofny
